Our clay tagines are imported directly from the medina in Fez, Morocco. The artisan’s signature is carved in the lid of the tagine. Before use the clay must be cured. Curing takes 24 hours and instructions are included. Its a real centerpiece on your table!
The tagine is named after the utensil in which it is made. Traditionally, tagines are made in terracotta dishes. The food, simmered over low heat, stews and steams in a deep plate covered with a conical lid.
The word tagine refers to both the conical-shaped dish and the food that's cooked inside it, which is usually a blend of delicious sweet and savoury flavours. Traditionally the ingredients were packed into the pot, the lid was popped on tight, then it was cooked slowly over a smouldering charcoal fire.
